Executive producer David Michael Latt announced on social media that there will not be a sixth season, so the 28 Dec 2018 episode will serve as the de facto finale.

It lost its way. Haven't enjoyed since The Murphy mission ended and it got weird. I'm not saying I'm glad it's ending. I was hoping it would find a new mission as enjoyable as "The Murphy", but it didn't.

It will miss this show, even if it was a weird zombie show!

With, The Asylum in charge of this show, it lasted far longer than any of their movies have actually been watched all the way through.
However, it has been a much more fun ride with Doc and Murphy than the last 2 or 3 seasons of, The Walking Dead. Going to miss those two the most. I have been kind of upset with the show since it killed off Casandra. She was a great Murphy companion.

I will miss this show and the great characters in it. It had some real laugh out loud moments. Netflix however have picked up a prequel story called Black Summer. "Black Summer is before the apocalypse got weird and was just scary." "not intended to be the funny version of The Walking Dead that Z Nation is, but instead will be a more traditional take on zombie lore"

Sad, but it definitely ran it's course. I was surprised to see it go to 5 seasons since most SYFY shows only make it to 4. I'll miss seeing new episodes but I will definitely watch the whole series through a bunch of times.
